As the year draws to a close, it’s natural to pause and reflect.
The past twelve months have been filled with moments of joy and progress, yet also seasons of challenge and uncertainty. Through it all, one truth stands firm—trusting God has been our anchor. His faithfulness has never wavered, even when circumstances did.
Looking Back with Gratitude
When we look back through the lens of gratitude, we begin to see God’s fingerprints in every season. The late nights, the tough decisions, the unexpected detours—all revealed something about His goodness and purpose.
- In seasons of growth, trusting God showed us His abundant provision.
- In seasons of waiting, trusting God taught us His perfect timing.
- In seasons of hardship, trusting God revealed His deep comfort.
Like the Israelites standing on the far side of the Jordan (Joshua 3), we can look back and remember the waters He parted to bring us this far. God never promised an easy journey, but He promised His presence—and He kept that promise every single day.
Before rushing into a new year, pause. Reflect. Where did you see His hand at work? What prayers did He answer, perhaps differently than you expected? Gratitude refocuses the heart and reminds us that trusting God yesterday gives us courage to trust Him again tomorrow.
Learning from Every Season
Every season carries lessons for those who listen. Some years God calls us to plant; others He calls us to prune. Growth doesn’t always look like expansion—sometimes it looks like refinement.
Maybe this year humbled you or tested your faith. If so, take heart. God often uses difficulty to prepare us for what’s next. Paul reminds us in Romans 5:3–4:
“We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
When we practice trusting God in suffering, He shapes our character and strengthens our hope. He wastes nothing—not your struggles, not your waiting, not your tears. Each moment becomes part of His training ground for the leader He’s forming you to be.
Moving Forward with Faith
As we step into a new year, uncertainty lingers. We can’t see the future, but we know the One who holds it. Trusting God means walking into the unknown with confidence that He’s already there.
Deuteronomy 31:8 assures us:
“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
That promise gives us strength to move forward—not in our own wisdom, but in His. The year ahead may bring new challenges, yet it also holds new opportunities to lead, to grow, and to deepen our trust in Him.
So let’s walk into the coming year with open hands and expectant hearts, believing that trusting God today prepares us for the blessings He’s already set in motion.
A Prayer for the New Year
“Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness in every season. As we look back, fill our hearts with gratitude for all You’ve done. As we move forward, give us the courage to keep trusting You with what’s ahead. Teach us to lead with humility, serve with love, and walk by faith in the year to come. Amen.”
Action Steps for Leaders
As one season ends and another begins, take time to strengthen your trust in God’s leadership.
- Reflect: Write down three ways you experienced God’s faithfulness this year.
- Release: Surrender disappointments or regrets that weigh you down.
- Rejoice: Celebrate the victories—big or small—that revealed His presence.
- Refocus: Ask God what He wants to refine in your leadership this coming year.
- Resolve: Commit to trusting God fully in every season ahead.
