J.K. Rowling

In a culture that demands immediate gratification, your words were an excellent reminder that this is not the economy of heaven. Looking at my struggles through the long hall, knowing that God will use ALL things for his good and that he will NEVER leave me from his word is a quiet encouragement to press on.
One of the challenges we face this side of heaven is persevering through trials but as you wisely note, all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
It’s often difficult to know if you’re on the right path. For every J. K. Rowling, there are many writers who also stick to their guns but fail to find a publisher. Thus, perseverance demands careful evaluation along the way. Because sometimes the slightest change of course or re-orientation could mean the difference between success and a Sisyphean existence. I recall Rowling was rejected by dozens of publishers before she was finally accepted. I bet those houses that rejected her are having second thought about their decision process! Rick Warren mentioned once that he was rejected by several publishers before Zondervan said yes to “Purpose Driven Life”! I wonder how many great works of art are sitting in a drawer somewhere because an author accepted the first “no.”
